184. Deputy Neasa Hourigan asked the Minister for Transport his plans to introduce a requirement on HGVs operating in Dublin city centre to eliminate all blind spots by adding camera equipment and other enhancements to driver vision, similar to the direct vision standard and HGV safety permit scheme operating in most of greater London; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under section 35 of the Road Traffic Act 1994, the Minister for Transport may, by regulation, provide for local authorities to control the entry of specific vehicles to particular areas.

Work on direct vision technologies for commercial vehicles is a priority under Action 11 of the Government's Road Safety Strategy, which is being led by the Road Safety Authority.

As Minister, I support measures to make our streets safer for all road users and will consider recommendations from the RSA on this matter.
