The Seanad Public Consultation Committee is inviting written submissions to consider the most appropriate way the State should treat the National Anthem.
Amhrán na bhFiann was formally adopted as the National Anthem of the Irish Free State in 1926. The State’s copyright over the Anthem expired on 31 December 2012. Now the Seanad Public Consultation Committee is preparing to consider issues such as cultural tolerance, respect for national symbols, public opinion and free speech regarding the Anthem.
