National Anthem

The Seanad Public Consultation Committee’s call for submissions on the National Anthem closes at 4 pm today.

Amhrán na bhFiann was formally adopted as the National Anthem of the Irish Free State in 1926. The State’s copyright over the Anthem expired on 31 December 2012. The committee has invited submissions as it prepares to consider issues such as cultural tolerance, respect for national symbols, public opinion and free speech regarding the Anthem.
