Building on the success enjoyed by the Houses of the Oireachtas at the annual Civil Service Excellence and Innovation Awards in recent years, the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has been shortlisted in the "World Class Civil Service" category.
These awards promote commitment and achievements among staff and showcase enterprise in policy and service across the Civil and Public Service. The nominated PBO project shortlisted for the 2025 awards is entitled "Establishment of the Parliamentary Budget Office’s Policy and Election Proposal Costing Service".
The project, carried out in 2024, focused on delivering a comprehensive policy costing service for parliamentarians and political parties. This service supported greater evidence informed policy formulation for both the opposition and Government. A cornerstone of the efforts was a dedicated election costing service, which provided high-quality analysis for political parties, feeding into their manifestos.
The project lays a strong foundation for promoting informed policy decisions, better resource allocation, and increased public trust.
Speaking on the announcement of the nomination, Ms. Annette Connolly, Director of the PBO, stated:
The nomination is a testament to the focus on delivering quality services to Members of the Oireachtas by the Parliamentary Budget Office, with fiscal analysis increasingly relevant and important in an election year.
The Civil Service Excellence and Innovation Awards is an annual event that recognises excellence, best practice and innovation within the public service. This year's awards ceremony will be held on 29 May.
