Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to discuss access to justice and legal costs

26 Nov 2019, 12:45

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House to discuss access to justice and legal costs.

The Committee will hear submissions from Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC), the Law Society of Ireland, the Council of the Bar of Ireland and the Legal Aid Board.

Ahead of the meeting, Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “The issue of high legal costs has long been seen as a barrier to accessing justice through the courts for many people in Ireland. The Committee has decided these issues need closer examination and we look forward to hearing the views of these stakeholders on how to make the justice system both accessible and affordable for everyone.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
