Joint Committee on Transport and Communications to discuss All-Island Rail Review with Irish Rail

16 Feb 2022, 16:50

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 17 February, with representatives of Iarnród Éireann-Irish Rail to discuss the All-Island Rail Review.

The meeting at 9.30am in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House will hear from Jim Meade, Chief Executive, and Peter Muldoon, Director Capital Investment.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Kieran O’Donnell said: “The All-Island Rail review was launched last year by the Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD, and his counterpart in the Northern Ireland Executive, Nichola Mallon MLA, and included an invite for submissions from members of the public and interested parties.

“The purpose of the review is to examine how the railways are used, how they could be used in future and how the network can evolve to serve the people on the island of Ireland and achieve policy goals to promote sustainable connectivity into, and between, the major cities, enhance regional accessibility and support balanced regional development.

“The Committee welcomes the opportunity to meet with Irish Rail and looks forward to discussing the levels of ambition for development of future rail services across the island, including inter-city, cross-border and regional services.”

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
