COMMITTEE ON JUSTICE, DEFENCE AND EQUALITY HEAR SUBMISSIONS ON THE PROPOSED NATIONAL VETTING BUREAU BILL 2011

21 Sep 2011, 16:47

Representatives from groups and organisations dealing with the provision of various services to young people made submissions on the proposed National Vetting Bureau Bill 2011, to the Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality, today Wednesday 21 September 2011. Committee Chairman, David Stanton TD said “I am delighted with the manner in which this morning’s proceedings panned out. This was the first time for the Committee to hear submissions in advance of the publication of a bill. The scope of the submissions made was excellent and the contributions made by both the various interest groups and the Members themselves allowed us to tease out the proposed legislation in a very meaningful way. This process is a very welcome method of bringing the people to the national Parliament and vice versa. We will now proceed to examine the proposals made by the groups and will report back to the Minister for Justice with recommendations based on what we heard”

The groups making submissions were as follows;

ISPCC & Barnardos, GAA & Swim Ireland, The Teaching Council, IUA & INTO,
The Arts Council, Poetry Ireland & Create Ireland, Rape Crisis Network Ireland & Society of SVP
