Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education to discuss the role of arts and music education in disadvantaged areas

14 Feb 2012, 17:24

Representatives from Kylemore College Ballyfermot and the City of Dublin VEC will attend the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education tomorrow, 15th February, to discuss the role or arts and music education in disadvantaged areas.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “Arts and music have always been an integral part of our society and central to Irish life. As well as providing pleasure and joy to those participating and watching arts and music events, the arts and music industry has been highlighted as an example of how to revive our economy by generating jobs and stimulating economic activity through festivals and events. Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to discuss the role of arts and music education in disadvantaged areas and look at the key opportunities and challenges that bodies such as Kylemore College and the City of Dublin VEC face in championing the arts and music in their communities and fostering talent at all levels of education.”

This meeting will take place on Wednesday, 15th February in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000 at 9.30am.
