Karl Whelan, Brian Lucey and Stephen Kinsella to address Finance Committee on IBRC Promissory Notes

14 Feb 2012, 15:21

Professor Karl Whelan, Professor Brian Lucey and Dr Stephen Kinsella will attend the Committee Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform tomorrow, 15th February to discuss repayment of the Exceptional Liquidity Assistance and the IBRC Promissory Notes.

Committee Chairman, Alex White TD said: “There has been much debate and commentary surrounding the issue of exceptional liquidity assistance provided to the then Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide Building Society to prevent their collapse and the repayment of this assistance through Promissory Notes that the State is now paying to the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation. Our meeting tomorrow will provide Committee Members with an opportunity to get a full, in-depth explanation of the matters involved from a number of the country’s leading economists. It is important that the details are highlighted and explained in a clear and understandable manner so that the issues surrounding repayment of the exceptional liquidity assistance that was provided to these banks can be debated in a fair, open and transparent way.”

This meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 15th February, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 2pm.
