EU Affairs Committee to meet German Minister of State

21 Feb 2012, 11:11

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs meets Michael Link, Minister of State in the German Federal Foreign Office. Minister of State Link will discuss the debt crisis in Europe, with a particular focus on Ireland.

Chairman of the Committee Dominic Hannigan TD said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with Minister of State Link on the current debt crisis engulfing Europe. As an influential member of the Free Democrat Party, Minister of State Link’s address will afford Committee Members a valuable insight into German perspectives on Ireland.

“Given the agreement by European finance ministers on the second bailout for Greece overnight, the meeting serves as a timely opportunity to discuss the wider implications of recent developments for Ireland and the Union as a whole.

“We will engage with the Minister of State on issues and concerns on Ireland’s EU/IMF programme, in which the wide range of opinion on our cross party Committee will be shared.

“Issues around the Fiscal Treaty will also be discussed tomorrow, including the question of a possible referendum in Ireland.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 22 February at 2.30 pm in Committee Room 1 in LH2000.
