Ombudsman for Children to attend Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education

6 Mar 2012, 17:32

Ombudsman for Children Emily Logan will attend the meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education tomorrow, 7th March, to discuss education issues related to her role.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “Tomorrow the Committee will receive an update from the Ombudsman for Children on the work of her office in relation to education. As part of its remit, the Ombudsman’s office can investigate complaints made by children and young people, or adults on their behalf, about public bodies, schools or hospitals. The Committee will be interested to know what proportion of complaints relate to education and how these break down between schools and the Department of Education and Skills. We will also consider what lessons can be learned from complaints and investigations carried out by the Ombudsman to ensure better interaction between public bodies, particularly those relating to education, and children and their families.”

This meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7th March in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000 at 9.30am.
