Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education to discuss Education (Amendment) Bill 2012 with interest groups

The National Association of Boards of Management in Special Education (NABMSE); Council for Education of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference; and the Joint Managerial Body will attend a meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education tomorrow, 14th March, to discuss the Education (Amendment) Bill 2012.

The Education (Amendment) Bill which provides for the amendment of the Education Act 1998 and the amendment of the Teaching Council Act 2001 in relation to a number of education matters including arrangements for the employment, in certain exceptional and limited circumstances, of persons who are not registered teachers under the Teaching Council Act 2001. Its aim is that all teachers in schools be registered with the Teaching Council and therefore fully qualified. 

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “Tomorrow, a number of groups will come before the committee to discuss their concerns and issues in relation to the Bill before the Committee stage amendments are made. The various groups will have an opportunity to outline how the Bill may affect the individuals and interests they represent.”

This meeting will start at 9.30am on Wednesday, 14th March in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
