Agriculture Committee to meet ICSA representatives on CAP talks

4 May 2012, 15:34

The Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture will meet representatives of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association on the Common Agricultural Policy Tuesday 8 May at 2 pm.

CAP reform is a key priority for the Committee, which is discussing the subject in detail with a number of major stakeholders this month.  Department of Agriculture officials, MEPs and IFA representatives addressed the Committee on the matter last week.

Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee Andrew Doyle TD said: “Tuesday’s meeting allows the Committee engage with the ICSA on their approach to CAP. As representatives of sheep and cattle farmers across the country, the Committee intends to explore their distinct perspective on the on-going CAP negotiations.

“Our Committee will forward a short political report to the EU Institutions before the summer, which will incorporate Tuesday’s discussions with the ICSA representatives. Other farming organisations and stakeholders are scheduled to address the Committee in the coming weeks.”

This meeting takes place on Tuesday afternoon 8 May in Committee Room 3, LH 2000, at 2 p.m. Committee proceedings can be followed live at: http://bit.ly/24YmPI
