16 May 2012, 17:42

To mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will meet with representatives from BeLonGTo; LINC; Outhouse; Transgender Equality Network Ireland; Gay and Lesbian Equality Network; Marriage Equality; and An Garda Síochána tomorrow, 17th May.

Chairman of the Committee, Deputy David Stanton said: “International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia is held on May 17th every year and is an opportunity to help build a society and a world free of prejudice against people because of their sexual identiy.

Homophobia and transphobia is not exclusive to any one country, region or society. The onus is on us all to work together to eradicate this form of discrimination from society.

Tomorrow, we will have an opportunity to engage with a variety of groups and organisations that provide information, support and advice to people of a variety of sexual identities to get their perspectives on issue of homophobia and transphobia.”

This meeting will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 17th May in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 10am.
