The Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet the Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton TD tomorrow Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
The Minister of State’s presence at the meeting will allow Committee Members to question her in advance of the upcoming meeting of the General Affairs Council (GAC), to be held in Brussels next week.
Chairman of the Committee Dominic Hannigan TD said: “Our Committee meeting to tomorrow is a valuable opportunity to explore Irish government policy with Minister Creighton in advance of the key monthly General Affairs Council meeting. The main agenda items for this month are the new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), which will shape the EU’s budget between 2014 and 2020, and preparation for important upcoming European and G20 summits.”
“The next European Council meeting at the end of June will focus on how upcoming budgets can best contribute to the creation of growth. Meanwhile, the G20 summit to be held in Mexico next month will also focus on jobs and growth, particularly with regard to agricultural production and productivity, food security and green growth. At a critical juncture for the European Union, tomorrow's exchange of views with Minister Creighton affords the Committee a valuable and timely opportunity to make a contribution. ”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 24 May 11:30 a.m. in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
