Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD has offered condolences on behalf of the Dáil to the family and friends of former Ceann Comhairle Pádraig Faulkner, who passed away this morning aged 94.
Mr Faulkner was first elected to the Dáil as TD for Louth in 1957 and served as Ceann Comhairle from 16 October 1980 to 30 June 1981.
Ceann Comhairle of the Dáil Seán Barrett TD says: “It is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Pádraig Faulkner, who had a long and successful career in public life. After serving in a number of Ministries, Mr Faulkner was elected Ceann Comhairle in 1980.”
“I will be attending Mr Faulkner’s funeral to extend my deepest sympathies to the Faulkner’s family on behalf of the Members of Dáil Éireann, where he served with distinction for over 30 years.”
