Mediating the 2011 general election: Preliminary results from an analysis of newspaper and broadcast campaign coverage

26 Jun 2012, 16:54

New findings from a major research project undertaken at Dublin City University (DCU) on media coverage during the 2011 general election will be presented at a seminar in Leinster House on Wednesday (tomorrow), 27 June 2012 at 7.00 pm.

The study examined the content of twelve national newspapers and a selection of broadcast coverage during the 2011 election campaign.

The first results from this project allow for a comparison of coverage direction in national media outlets.  The research findings are also comparable with results in similar international studies.

The study is a joint project of the School of Communication and the School or Law and Government at DCU and was supported by funding from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at DCU.

This project has been led by four members of the academic staff at DCU: Dr. Eoin O’Malley, Dr. Iain McMenamin, Dr. Kevin Rafter and Dr. Roddy Flynn.
