Sub-Committee to consider Residential Institutions Statutory Fund Bill 2012

Minister Ruairi Quinn TD will tomorrow morning attend a meeting of the Select Sub-Committee on Education and Skills to consider the Residential Institutions Statutory Fund Bill 2012.

The Bill provides for the establishment of a Statutory Fund to support the needs of survivors of residential institutional child abuse. Access Bill.

Select Sub-Committee Chair Joanna Tuffy TD says: “This meeting will allow our Sub-Committee consider this significant piece of legislation, which proposes the establishment of a fund for victims. The Minister estimates that 15,000 former residents are expected to be eligible to apply for support from the fund.

“We look forward to exploring with the Minister how the Bill will ensure that compensation is dispensed to the victims in a fair, timely and simple manner.”

The Select Sub-Committee meeting takes place tomorrow morning 28 June 2012 at 10 a.m. in Committee Room 2 LH 2000.
