Committee on Health and Children to discuss key research on family life

4 Jul 2012, 16:10

The Committee on Health and Children will tomorrow meet with representatives of the Childhood Development Initiative, a consortium of community leaders, residents and professionals living and working in Tallaght West.

The Committee will discuss with them an important piece of research, which assesses families in the community of Tallaght West and particularly the risk and protective factors associated with children’s wellbeing.

Committee Chairman Jerry Buttimer TD says: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with CDI representatives, on a comprehensive research that focused on extensive child and family demographic information and well-being indicators in order to provide a holistic picture of family life.

“While this study suggests that families are coping well in relation to health, parenting and general wellbeing, the findings also highlight the
struggles that some families face in these straitened economic times. While focussed on Tallaght West, the Committee will hope to explore with CDI representatives the relevance of the research for similar communities across the country.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow morning at 11:30 am in Committee Room 2, LH 2000. Committee proceedings can be followed live at: http://bit.ly/24YmPI
