Sub-Committee on Environment to discuss Electoral Bill with Environment Minister

10 Jul 2012, 11:41

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan, TD will attend the meeting of the Sub Committee on Environment, Community and Local Government tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th July for the committee stage of the Electoral (Amendment) (Political Funding) Bill 2011.

Committee chair Ciaran Lynch, TD said: “The Bill aims to establish a register of corporate donors; to provide for reductions in donation and donation declaration limits; to provide for disclosure of accounts by political parties; to amend the law relating to state funding of political parties; for these and other purposes to amend the Electoral Act 1992, the Electoral Act 1997 and the Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999; and to provide for related matters.

More significantly this legislation provides an incentive for gender parity whereby, at the next general election, political parties will have to select at least 30% women candidates or face losing half their State funding.”

This meeting with Minister Hogan will take place on Wednesday, 11th July, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 11.30am.
