Jobs Committee to conclude hearings on unemployment with round table discussion

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “As part of the on-going consideration of unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, this Committee has undertaken an intensive series of meeting with interest groups and organisations working with unemployed people as well as employers, business people and organisations involved in job creation.

Tomorrow we will conclude our hearings with a round table discussion with representatives from the European Commission, Discovery Zone, Ernst and Young, SIPTU, Forfás and the Musgrave group. This meeting will provide us with an opportunity to get the perspectives from a wide range of interested parties on the issue and help us in our efforts to find solutions to the problem of unemployment by creating sustainable jobs.

The contributions of the various groups tomorrow, along with those from previous meetings, will  help inform the report that the Committee is preparing on the issue which we hope will put forward clear, innovative and actionable steps that will make a difference. It is important that we as a committee continue to play our part in helping to achieve progress and finding new potential solutions to achieve the net result of getting people back to work.”

This meeting will begin at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2 on Tuesday, 18th September.
