The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will tomorrow continue its hearings with farming organisations on the upcoming budget.
14 November 2012
The Committee will hear pre-budget submissions from the Irish Farmers’ Association and the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association. It follows similar engagement with ICMSA officials on Tuesday.
Chairman of the Committee Andrew Doyle TD says: “We look forward to discussing the priorities for the IFA and ICSA as we face into this crucial Pre-Budget phase. While much commentary focusses on the strength of Irish agri-food sector, the difficult summer for agriculture underlines the challenges that many farm families face.
This is a valuable opportunity for our Committee to hear the perspectives of both key stakeholders on Budget 2013 tomorrow. While it is generally agreed that the imbalances in the public finances need to be corrected, it is important that the any adjustments to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s budget don’t impact negatively on our high-performing export led agriculture sector.”
The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 15 November in Committee Room 4, LH 2000 at 9:30 a.m. Macra na Feirme are scheduled to address the Committee next Tuesday 20 November on their pre-Budget submission.
Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
