The Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation will meet with Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th February, 2013 to discuss reform of the National Micro and Small Business Support structures.
Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “The Government’s reform of the National Micro & small Business support service will see the creation of a centre of excellence located within Enterprise Ireland and the establishment of Local Enterprise Offices in Local Authorities incorporating the enterprise centre focus of the City & County Enterprise Boards following their dissolution.
“Tomorrow, we will have a chance to discuss this major reform programme in greater detail with the Minister. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and micro businesses are an important contributor to growth and employment in Ireland, employing tens of thousands of people. They play a key role in creating jobs and reducing unemployment.
“The creation of jobs and the promotion of enterprise is probably the greatest issue facing the country today. This Committee has a key role to play in providing a meaningful input into legislation and policy and informing debate on the creation and retention of jobs and promoting and supporting enterprise and innovation. Tomorrow, Committee members will have an opportunity to engage with the Minister on his proposals and raise any issues they may have.”
Before the Committee meets with Minister Bruton, the Committee will carry out scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: COM(2012)15; COM(2012)372; COM(2012)709 and COM(2012)725;
This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 5th February 2013, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000 at 1.30pm.
