Finance Committee to continue hearings on FOI legislation

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform will continue its hearings on the General Scheme of the Freedom of Information Bill 2012 tomorrow, Thursday, 7th February 2013 when it meets with representatives from National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI).

Ciarán Lynch, TD, Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, said:
“Tomorrow, we will continue our hearings on the General Scheme of the Freedom of Information Bill 2012 when we meet with representatives from National Newspapers of Ireland.  As the representative body for Ireland's national newspapers and Irish editions of UK national newspapers, we will be particularly interested in getting NNI’s views on current FOI legislation and how they see the proposed legislation impacting on the FOI regime in this country.”

As part of its hearings, the Committee has already met with Seamus Dooley, National Union of Journalists; Gavin Sheridan, Thestory.ie; Luke Bukha, Anti-Deportation Ireland; Emily O’Reilly, Information Commissioner; and with Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin TD.

This meeting will start in Committee Room 3, Leinster House at 9.30am on Thursday, 7th February 2013.
