Oireachtas Committee to continue consideration of petitions

12 Feb 2013, 13:51

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon continue its consideration of petitions received from members of the public.

12 February 2013

The Committee is scheduled to examine petitions on the following topics tomorrow:

  • Perceived failure of National Roads Authority to inform interested parties of its intentions in relation to the N28;
  • Perceived discrimination in law against those convicted of capital murder prior to 1990;
  • The availability of the Kalydeco drug to sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis;
  • Complaint against the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine and his Department, and
  • Request for re-examination of the course of action taken by Galway County Council in granting planning permission for a wind farm.

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says: “The Oireachtas Petitions System, established in September, is continuing to receive a steady flow of petitions from members of the public, on a wide variety of topics. An empowering feature of the petitions system is that it is open and accessible to every single citizen. Tomorrow our Committee will have an opportunity to carefully consider a diverse series of petitions received, and how best to advance the concerns they outline in relation to delivery of public services.\"
