Operation Transformation experts to address Health Committee on tackling obesity

13 Feb 2013, 15:30

The panel of experts from RTÉ’s Operation Transformation will address the Committee on Health and Children on measures to tackle obesity tomorrow, Thursday, 14th February 2013.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “We’re looking forward to our meeting with Dr Eva Orsmond, Dr Eddie Murphy and Karl Henry from RTÉ’s Operation Transformation. As a group tasked with aiding and encouraging people to drastically change their eating and exercise habits to lose weight and follow a healthy lifestyle they can offer a unique perspective on the issue of obesity and measures to tackle the problem.

The meeting tomorrow is part of ongoing hearings the Committee is having with interested parties and experts to get their perspectives on the issue and discuss in detail their views and ideas on dealing with the issue of obesity, in particular childhood obesity. Among those who have addressed the Committee to date on this topic are: Professor Carlos Blanco, Our Lady's Children’s Hospital, Crumlin; Professor Donal O’Shea, Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician, St Vincent's University Hospital and St Columcille's Hospital; and Professor Niall Moyna, School of Health and Human Performance, DCU.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Thursday, 14th February, 2013 at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, LH 2000.
