The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications will tomorrow hear from representatives of Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, who will discuss their proposals for the creation of a what they consider to be a fairer broadcasting sector that serves the whole community and how public monies can best be spent to achieve that goal.
19 February 2013
The meeting forms part of the Committee's on-going consideration of state funding to public and independent broadcasters.
Chairman of the Committee Tom Hayes TD says: \"Tomorrow's meeting is a valuable opportunity to hear the perspective of the independent broadcasters on access to state funding for programming. Independent radio stations play an indispensable role in Ireland's media landscape. Often deeply rooted in the communities they serve, independent radio stations are listened to by over 2.5 million people daily. The representatives are expected to argue tomorrow for enhanced public funding for their sector.\"
The meeting takes place in Committee Room 4, LH 2000, tomorrow Wednesday 20 February, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Follow public proceedings here.
