Agriculture Committee to meet with Department Officials on CAP and CFP

20 Feb 2013, 16:10

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine tomorrow meets with officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, who will update the Committee on EU developments over the past six months.

20 February 2013

The officials will also discuss the approach of Ireland at the EU Council Meeting of Agriculture and Fisheries, to be held in Brussels next week.

Chairman of the Committee Andrew Doyle TD says:  “Our Committee has an important oversight role on the Government’s interaction with the European Union on policy related to agriculture and fisheries. The presence of Department Officials tomorrow provides a timely opportunity for the Committee to explore the latest state of play in the Common Agricultural Policy talks, and the wider implications of the recent outcomes in the negotiations on the EU’s budget from 2014 to 2020. We will also have an opportunity to hear from Officials on the Common Fisheries Policy, where talks in December focussed heavily on measures to curb overfishing.

“Next month our Committee hosts an important meeting of the Chairs of Agriculture Committees from across the European Union, in which the evolving CAP and CFP negotiations will be top of our agenda.  The meeting tomorrow will inform these discussions with our counterparts from other national parliaments.”

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 4, LH 2000, at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow 21 February 2013. Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
