Justice Committee visits the Bar Council of Ireland

20 Feb 2013, 14:18

A delegation from the Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality today, Wednesday, 20th February, visited the Bar Council of Ireland and the Law Library.

The delegation included Committee Chairman David Stanton TD, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD, John Paul Phelan TD and Senator Martin Conway.

Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “The Bar Council of Ireland is the regulatory and representative body for barristers practicing law in the Republic of Ireland. The Irish Bar aims to provide its clients with a high level of expertise in all areas of law and skilled advocacy.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Bar Council and the Law Library to see at first-hand its work and facilities. It was an enlightening, productive and informative visit.

As Justice Committee members and legislators, it is important for us to directly engage with a wide variety of people and organisations working in the legal arena so that we are fully informed about their roles and the nature of their work.

The Committee is committed to visit as many of the facilities as possible that fall under its remit so it is fully informed on the important work undertaken on behalf of the citizens of our State.”
