PAC to examine Revenue Commissioners financial statements

20 Feb 2013, 15:10

The Committee of Public Accounts will consider the financial statements of the Revenue Commissioners when it meets with Josephine Feehily, Chairman, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, tomorrow, 21st February, 2013.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD said: “Chapters 7 to 10 of the C&AG Annual Report relating to the Revenue Commissioners are on the agenda for the PAC this week as well as the 2011 Appropriation Account of the Revenue Commissioners.

“Net tax and duty receipts increased in 2011 by 7.3% to €34.2 billion, reversing three years of falling returns. The Committee would be interested in establishing if revenue receipts are currently on target for 2013. We will also be keen to explore the use of attachments orders by Revenue and how Revenue balances enforcement with limited debt rescheduling for viable businesses. Other issues of interest for the Committee will be the new property tax and Revenue’s role as collection agent and joint investigations with the Department of Social Protection.

“Staff numbers at the Revenue Commissioners and whether it has sufficient staff to meets its obligations, how much each member of audit staff yields and the skill set in Revenue are also likely to feature at tomorrow’s meeting.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 at 10am tomorrow, Thursday, 21st February 2013.
