The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications will tomorrow meet with John Mullins, Chairman Designate of the Port of Cork.
26 February 2013
The Port of Cork company, with 113 full time employees and twelve harbour pilots, works to promote and develop Cork as a world class port. It aims to facilitate the efficient and environmentally sustainable movement of goods and people to and from the marketplace while advancing the marine leisure opportunities presented by Cork’s natural harbour.
Chairman of the Committee Tom Hayes TD says: \"Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. The meeting tomorrow with John Mullins will allow the Committee consider the approach he proposes to take for what is one of Ireland's most important transport gateways. He will have to opportunity to outline what he sees as the priorities and challenges for the Port of Cork in the immediate period ahead and into the future.
“The Committee does not have a blocking role in the appointments and following the discussion tomorrow, decisions will be taken by the Minister or the Government, as appropriate, to confirm Mr Mullins as Chairman.”
The meeting commences at 9:30 am tomorrow Wednesday 27 February in Committee Room 4.
