Health Committee to discuss the establishment of the Child and Family Support Agency

27 Feb 2013, 17:14

The Committee on Health and Children will discuss the establishment of the Child and Family support Agency at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 28th February 2013.

Those attending tomorrow’s meeting are: Gordon Jeyes, Chief Executive Designate, Child and Family Support Agency; Professor Pat Dolan, UNESCO Chair and Director and member of Government Task Force advising on new Agency; and representatives from Barnados; Foroige; CARI and Family Resource Centre National Forum.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “According to the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, the creation of a new Child and Family Support Agency will bring a dedicated focus to child protection, family support and other key children’s services for the first time in the history of the State. The new agency will take over responsibility for child welfare and protection from the HSE. Tomorrow we will have a chance to discuss the setting up of this agency, its role and responsibilities, how it aims to reform child protection services and how it will interact with other services such as primary care. We are looking forward to getting the perspectives and views of a wide variety of interested parties and stakeholders, while Members will have an opportunity to raise any issues they may have in relation to the establishment of the new agency.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Thursday, 28th February, 2013 at 9.30am in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
