The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications today met with John Mullins, Chairman Designate of the Port of Cork, who outlined his vision in his proposed role.
27 February 2013
Chairman of the Committee Tom Hayes TD says: \"Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Today's meeting was a welcome opportunity for our Committee to engage with the Chairperson Designate of a port that is of critical importance not just to the prosperity of Cork city, but to the wider Munster and South Leinster region. We thank Mr Mullins for a detailed and clear presentation on his experience and expertise in relation to the role.
“A number of Committee Members commented on the enthusiasm and energy displayed for the significant challenges ahead, including the proposed relocation of more services further down the harbour at Ringaskiddy and the re-development of Cork Docklands area. We also heard plans to build on Cobh’s enviable reputation as an award winning cruise liner terminal. The engagement today also served to contribute to transparency in state appointments. A transcript of today's discussion will be sent to the Minister for Transport for his consideration in the appointment process.”
