Oireachtas Committee to continue detailed consideration of petitions

30 Apr 2013, 17:45

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon continue its consideration of petitions received from members of the public.

30 April 2013

The Committee is scheduled to examine petitions on the following topics tomorrow:

  • Revising postal ballot rules to allow Irish citizens living abroad to vote (two individual petitions)
  • Open access to publicly funded research
  • Perceived under-reporting of Road Traffic Accidents in Ireland
  • Request to extend the smoking ban to all public places

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says: \"Our Committee look forward to carefully considering a range of petitions received from members of the general public and how best to advance the individual concerns raised. With 69 petitions received so far, the Committee has so far considered 39 of the petitions at least once. Committee Members would encourage any individual citizen with concerns around the delivery of public services. There is a standard form which we request all petitioners to complete, which is available at petitions.oireachtas.ie and can be completed and submitted online, emailed or sent by post.\"

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 1 May in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm commencing in private session. On considering petitions in private, public proceedings will re-commence at 5pm and can be viewed online via this link.
