Jobs Committee to meet representatives from Food and Drinks Industry of Ireland

3 May 2013, 13:55

Issues facing food companies in the grocery sector will be the focus of the Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation on Tuesday, 7th May 2013 when it meets with representatives from Food and Drink Industry of Ireland.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “We’re looking forward to our meeting with Food and Drink Industry Ireland (FDII), the IBEC group that represents the food sector. It recently called for legislation to introduce a statutory code of practice for the grocery sector. As a Committee with a remit in the area of jobs, enterprise and innovation, we are conscious of on-going pressure on food pricing and, while we are aware of the need for a vibrant, competitive retail sector offering value to the consumer, we also need to ensure that food suppliers are not squeezed out of business and that there is a fair relationship between suppliers and retailers. On Tuesday, we will have a chance to discuss the challenges facing the food and drink companies in the grocery sector.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 1.30pm on Tuesday 7th May 2013.
