Foreign Affairs Committee meeting to focus on development aid

25 Jun 2013, 11:35

Ireland’s policy for international development and meetings of the EU’s Foreign Affairs Council on development aid will be on the agenda of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade tomorrow, Wednesday, 26th June 2013 when it meets with Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Joe Costello TD.

Committee Chairman Pat Breen TD said: “In May, the Government launched Ireland’s new policy for international development. One World, One Future: Ireland’s Policy for International Development sets out the vision, goals and priorities for the Government’s overseas aid programme over the coming four years. Tomorrow we will have our first opportunity to discuss the new policy in depth with the Minister responsible for Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with responsibility for Trade and Development Joe Costello. It is a chance for the Minister to outline Ireland’s priorities in greater detail while members will have a chance to raise any issues they may in relation to Ireland’s international development policy. The meeting will also provide us with a chance to discuss with the Minister the priorities for the forthcoming meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on development aid as well discussing the outcomes of previous meetings.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 4.30pm on Wednesday, 26th June 2013.
