Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD said: “The Accounting Officer of the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government will be in attendance before the Committee this week. The Director General of the Environment Protection Agency will also be in attendance. The Department has responsibility for the EPA. There are a wide range of issues which could potentially be discussed at this week’s meeting, including: Mahon Tribunal costs to date and future costs; Corrib Gas Line payment and procedures around granting foreshore licences; an update on the household charge and the passing of information onto Revenue; the Department’s role in Irish Water; commercial rates and water rates; and ghost estates. Other issues which could feature at the meeting are the deficit on Environment Fund for 2011; the increase in landfill levy receipts as well as Environmental Fund Levies such as the plastic bag levy. Among the subjects we could address with the EPA are the independent external review carried out in 2010/2011; staff numbers, training and development; and waste recovery targets.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 at 10am tomorrow, Thursday, 27th June 2013.
