Climate Bill hearings continue at Environment Committee

1 Jul 2013, 10:18

As part of its on-going series of comprehensive hearings on the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill 2013 over the next two weeks, the Environment Committee will meet with Professor Peadar Kirby, Professor Emeritus of International Politics and Public Policy, University of Limerick; and Brian Ó Gallachóir, Lecturer in Energy Engineering, University College Cork tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd July 2013.

Michael McCarthy, Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht, said: “Tomorrow will kickstart a comprehensive series of meetings over the coming two weeks where we will hear from and engage with around 30 witnesses in relation to the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill 2013.

“Climate change is one of the key issues facing the world today and it is important that we formulate the necessary policy and legislation to help Ireland move to a low carbon and environmentally sustainable economy and society.

“Given the importance of this issue and the need to prepare our society and economy for a low carbon future, it is important that we meet with and hear from a wide range of interested parties and stakeholders to get their perspectives on the Bill as well as the challenges posed by climate change and adapting to it.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 4, Leinster House at 4.30pm on 2nd July 2013.
