Sub-Committee on Global Taxation to hear from OECD

22 Jul 2013, 14:31

The Joint sub-Committee on Global Taxation will kick off its hearings tomorrow 23rd July when it will receive a Review of Global Taxation Architecture in the context of base erosion and profit shifting from Pascal Saint-Amans, Director, OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration.

Sub-Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch said: “Tomorrow is the first in a series of hearings where we will examine the global corporate/multinational taxation architecture and Ireland’s relationship with that tax architecture.

The sub-committee will hear evidence from the OECD, the Department of Finance, the Revenue Commissioners, the Minister for Finance and other relevant taxation and academic experts on global tax matters.

We are looking forward to hearing from Pascal Saint-Amans tomorrow to get the perspective of the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration on the issue.  Our discussion is particularly timely given the recent publication of the OECD’s Action Plan on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting which has identified 15 specific actions in terms of international tax co-operation. It will allow countries to draw up the co-ordinated, comprehensive and transparent standards they need to prevent base erosion and profit shifting.

Multinational companies come to Ireland for a variety of reasons, not least our access to the Eurozone, our well-educated workforce, the cost of doing business and our taxation system. We accept that there is merit in engaging in a process of understanding how our tax infrastructure works in an international context and our meetings should provide us with a clear and comprehensive understanding of the issues.”

This meeting will be conducted by video conference from Paris and will start in Committee Room 1 at 1pm on Tuesday, 23rd July 2013.
