The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will tomorrow morning meet with Eithne Scott Lennon, Chair Designate of Dun Laoghaire Harbour.

17 September 2013

The Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company is the statutory commercial body charged with developing Dún Laoghaire Harbour as a marine tourism gateway to Ireland, maintaining and enhancing the recreational and amenity value of the Harbour and promoting investment and commercial development to support the historic Harbour’s long-term maintenance.

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. The meeting tomorrow with Eithne Scott Lennon will allow the Committee consider the approach she proposes to take to develop one of Ireland’s most important and historical marine gateways. She will have to opportunity to outline what she sees as the priorities and challenges for the Dun Laoghaire Harbour in the immediate period ahead and into the future. Her presentation is likely to touch on recent efforts to develop the harbour as a cruise ship terminal. ”

“The Committee does not have a blocking role in the appointments and following the discussion tomorrow, decisions will be taken by the Minister or the Government, as appropriate, to confirm Ms Scott Lennon as Chair.”

The meeting commences at 11 am tomorrow Wednesday 18 September in Committee Room 4. Committee proceedings will be followed here.
