Education Committee calls for public submissions on Special Needs Assistants

30 Oct 2013, 12:06

Aodhán Ó Ríordáin TD has today issued an invitation to interested individuals and groups to have their say on the role of Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) in primary and post-primary schools.

30 October 2013

Launching the public consultation this afternoon as Rapporteur for the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection, Deputy Ó Ríordáin  said: “The provision of frontline services for pupils with special educational needs is a major issue for schools, parents, and the children concerned.  The Committee will be keen to assess what, if any, policy changes are required in relation to the functions on SNAs. I look forward to hearing from a wide range of stakeholders on this issue, and the submissions we receive will flow into a Committee Report which will seek to chart the best way forward on this important issue.”

All submissions and communications in relation to this matter are being handled by Deputy Ó Ríordáin and should be sent, preferably by electronic means to snasubmissions@oireachtas.ie .
