6 Nov 2013, 15:59

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will continue its hearings on end of life care tomorrow, Thursday, 7th November 2013.

The schedule for tomorrow’s hearings is:

Session A: 10 a.m.
Dr Maeve O’ Reilly, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin; Lauralynn; Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and Irish Childhood Bereavement Network.

Session B: 12 noon
GLEN; Dr Regina McQuillan, St. Francis Hospice and Dr Paul D’Alton, Irish Hospice Foundation.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “We have a long tradition of dealing sympathetically and respectfully with end of life and bereavement in this country. It is important that those approaching end of life and their families, friends and loved ones are treated with dignity and respect and are given proper care and support. Our Committee is currently holding a series of meetings on end of life care and tomorrow we will continue with our hearings when we will receive presentations from groups and organisations involved in providing end of life and palliative care. Our series of meetings will allow us to consider how we currently care for those who are dying and how our health services are organised from an end of life perspective.”

The meeting will start at 9.30m in Committee Room 2, Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 7th November 2013.

Committee proceedings can be followed live here.
