Jobs Committee completes committee stage consideration of Companies Bill 2012

6 Nov 2013, 16:02

The Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation today, Wednesday, 6th November 2013 completed its Committee Stage consideration of the Companies Bill 2012.

Committee Chairman Damien English TD said: “The Companies Bill, which is the largest in the State to date with more than 1,400 sections, proposes many changes to company law and consolidation of the various Companies Acts which date from 1963. It sets out to modernise company law in Ireland and introduces several company law reforms.

Given the significance and size of the Bill, it was important that at committee stage we dealt with it in a speedy but thorough manner, with careful consideration being given to the changes proposed.

The Committee would like to acknowledge the significant contribution of advance briefings provided by Department officials over a number of months. This meant that concerns were addressed in advance of committee stage which contributed to the efficient passage of the Bill.

The fact that we have completed the committee stage of the Bill ahead of schedule reflects how the Committee worked in a collegiate manner on a cross-party basis to ensure the Bill received the fullest attention but was not delayed in reaching its next stage. I would like to thank all of the members of the Select Committee for their contributions.”
