Justice Committee to discuss motions on EU legislative proposals

The Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will consider two motions on EU legislative proposals today, Wednesday, 6th November 2013

Minister for Justice and Equality Alan Shatter TD will attend the committee meeting to discuss two Dáil and Seanad motions on -

(i) COM(2013)452 – re application of Article 290 (TFEU) to five legal acts in the area of Justice providing for the use of the regulatory procedure with scrutiny; and
(ii) COM(2013)554 – re jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters

Committee Chairman David Stanton TD said: “Oireachtas Committees are playing an ever more important role in the oversight of EU legislation. We look forward to considering the motions on these two EU legislative proposals in the area of justice and decide what possible implications these will have for Ireland.”

The meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 2pm on Wednesday, 6th November 2013.
