Justice Committee to discuss Dáil and Seanad Motions

The Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will discuss two Dáil and Seanad Motions at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 13th November 2013

Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality with responsibilty for Disability, Equality and Mental Health Kathleen Lynch will attend the committee meeting to discuss:

COM(2013)528 - re Agreement between Canada and the European Union on the transfer and processing of Passenger Name Record Data; and
COM(2013)529 - re Agreement between Canada and the European Union on the transfer and processing of Passenger Name Record data.

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 2pm on Wednesday, 13th November 2013. Following this meeting, the Committee will meet with representatives from Irish Human Rights Commission and the Equality Authority to discuss the issue of Traveller ethnicity.

Committee Chairman David Stanton, TD, said: “The issue of Traveller ethnicity has been the subject of debate in this country. Having already met with Travellers’ groups and a number of academics to get their perspectives, tomorrow, we will have a chance to hear from representatives from Irish Human Rights Commission and the Equality Authority on this issue.”
