Agriculture Committee to consider a range of EU legislative proposals

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will consider a range of EU legislative proposals at a meeting tomorrow morning:

13 November 2013  

  • The proposals COM(2013)675 and COM(2013)677 relate to the importation hormone free beef from the United States.
  • COM(2013)648; COM(2013)649 and COM(2013)650 relate to proposals to renew the fishery partnership between Morocco and the European Union.
  • COM(2013)288 relates to a recently adopted regulation on Biocidal Products.
  • The purpose of COM(2013)327 is to modernise the management of animal and plant health in the food chain.

The Committee will also scrutinise non-priority proposals COM(2013)432; COM(2013)433; COM(2013)552; COM(2013)598; COM(2013)612.

Chairman of the Committee Andrew Doyle TD says: “Oireachtas Committees are playing an ever more important role in the oversight of EU legislation. At tomorrow's meeting, the Committee will carefully consider the proposals and their potential impact on Irish farming and the wider agri-food industry, and decide what further action to take in respect of these important pieces of EU legislation.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Thursday 14 November at 10 am in Committee Room 3 LH 2000 and will commence with consideration of the EU proposals in private session. The recommendations by the Committee will then be outlined in public session, which can be viewed online here.
