26 Nov 2013, 17:15

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications meets Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte TD tomorrow to discuss upcoming Council of Ministers meetings on Telecommunications and Energy.

26 November 2013

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Our Committee has an important oversight role on the Government’s interaction with the European Union on policy related to telecommunications and energy. We will engage with Minister Rabbitte on the approach he proposes to take at the forthcoming Telecommunications Council meeting on 5 December and the Energy Council meeting on 12 December. The meeting on 5 December is scheduled to cover important files relating to progressing the Single Telecoms Market, cyber-security and reducing the cost of broadband. Meanwhile, the meeting on 12 December will assess an EU directive on changes in land use as a result of rising biofuels targets, the completion of the Internal Energy Market and the EU’s relations with the wider world on an evolving global energy landscape.\"

The Secretary General of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources will also address the Committee tomorrow, to consider the Department’s EU Scrutiny Reports of 2012.

The meeting takes place at 9:30 am tomorrow Wednesday 27 November in Committee Room 4, LH 2000 and can be viewed online here.
