Communications Committee to meet EirGrid Chairman Designate

2 Dec 2013, 14:04

EirGrid Chairman Designate John O’Connor appears before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow to outline the approach he proposes to take to develop the commercial state company charged with managing the National Grid.

2 December 2013

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “Under the Programme for Government, those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Tomorrow’s meeting is a welcome opportunity for our Committee to engage with the Chairman Designate of EirGrid on his vision for the company. He will have the opportunity to outline what he sees as the priorities and challenges for the commercial state company in the immediate period ahead and into the future.”

“The meeting will serve to contribute to transparency in appointments to State boards and a transcript of the discussion will be sent to the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to assist in his final decision in the appointment process.”

Separately, the Committee will meet with EirGrid CEO Fintan Slye on Wednesday to consider in detail how regional community concerns around the upgrade to the National Grid can be addressed.

The meeting takes place at 11 am tomorrow Tuesday 3 December in Committee Room 2, LH 2000. The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas UPC Channel 207 and can be viewed online here.
