Oireachtas Committee to continue consideration of petitions

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will tomorrow afternoon consider another batch of public petitions received.

The petitions include:

  • 37/2012 - Alleged miscarriage of justice (Jimmy Ryan)     
  • 46/2012 - Alleged Garda misconduct leading to wrongful conviction (Matthew Vincent Smith)
  • 48/2012 - Death of person in disputed circumstances in 1979 (Patrick Martin)     
  • 67/2012 - Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Act 2010 (Liam Ó Tuathail)
  • 80/2012 - Alleged Garda coverup (Kevin Tracey)
  • 18/2013 - Legislation to tackle cyber bullying and anonymous websites (Margaret Gilbert)
  • 24/2013 - Recruitment policy within RTÉ ( Kevin Sharkey)
  • 26/2013 - Consistency in planning fees for holiday homes/self-catering accommodation across local authorities (Jim Beirne)
  • 29/2013 - The legalisation of cannabis (Pádraig Murphy)

Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD says: “The Oireachtas petitions system is a direct channel for individual citizens and groups across Ireland to influence the parliamentary agenda. Creating a petition is simple and the process has been designed to be open, user-friendly and accessible to all. Tomorrow our Committee will have an opportunity to carefully consider a diverse series of petitions received, and how best to advance the concerns and suggestions in relation to delivery of public services.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 11 December in Committee Room 3, LH 2000 at 4 pm. The meeting will commence in private session, before reverting to public session at approximately 4:45 pm. Public proceedings can be viewed online via this link.
