Health Committee to continue hearings on tobacco packaging bill

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children will resume its hearings on the Public Health (Standardised Packaging of Tobacco) Bill 2013 tomorrow, Thursday, 30th January 2013.

The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

Session A: 9.30 a.m.
Irish Cancer Society; Irish Heart Foundation; Irish Asthma Society; and ASH Ireland;
Session B: 11.45 a.m.
Children’s Rights Alliance; Tipperary Regional Youth Service; and ISPCC.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “Tomorrow we will continue our hearings on this Bill which will introduce standardised packaging for all tobacco products and also determine the size and position of health warnings on cigarette packets. We’re looking forward to getting their perspectives of a number of a number of health advocacy bodies and charities and youth organisations on the various measures contained in the Heads of the Bill and members will also have an opportunity to raise any issues they may have.”

The meeting will start at 9.30am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 30th   January 2014.
